BACKGROUND
There are more than 140,000 lower extremity amputations in the U.S. each year, most due to circulation problems.
Angioplasty below the knee can be limb-saving for patients at risk of amputation due to poor circulation.
THE PROBLEM
But angioplasty procedures below the knee are complex, and typically require numerous exchanges of specialized equipment during a procedure.
They also use x-ray contrast, which can damage kidney function.
THE SOLUTION
A multifunctional catheter that serves as a crossing catheter, diagnostic angiography catheter, and angioplasty balloon catheter can reduce equipment and contrast needs, and streamline below knee angioplasty procedures.
READ MOREFinesse InjectableTM Angioplasty Balloon Catheter
The Summa Finesse Injectable angioplasty balloon catheter is a line of novel multifunctional angioplasty balloon catheters developed to streamline complex below-knee interventions, reduce equipment use, and reduce contrast and radiation.
New Product Category
Finesse is the only .014″-compatible multifunctional catheter that enables lesion traversal, diagnostic angiography, and angioplasty with the same device.
Finesse features injection/infusion exit ports proximal to the angioplasty balloon as a means for contrast injection while over the wire. End hole injections also can be done after wire removal.
Ergonomic Design
Ergonomic design in medical devices is crucial for enhancing user experience, reducing strain, and improving safety.
Below-knee interventions can be long and technically challenging, often requiring sequential angioplasty and angiography at multiple sites. Finesse is designed to make procedures easier to perform. On-the-fly injection capability while over-the-wire can reduce catheter exchanges and improve procedural efficiency.
Ultra-low Contrast Angioplasty
Contrast-sparing angioplasty is the essential for many patients with chronic kidney disease, who are at risk of contrast-induced kidney toxicity. Ultra-low dose contrast is enabled by injection of contrast close to the site being imaged. The image above was obtained with just 1 ml equivalent of contrast (300 mg/ml).
